A Fizel commitment

1% for the Outdoors

The businesses we serve help people experience the outdoors every day. We believe it’s our responsibility to help protect the places that make those experiences possible.

Why it matters

Fizel wasn’t built to process payments.

It was built to support the businesses that make outdoor experiences possible — the shop that fits your first pair of skis, the guide who reads the river, the campground that keeps the gate light on, the outfitter who hands you the paddle.

Those businesses depend on something they don’t own: the trail, the coastline, the snowpack, the water, the access road, the public land at the end of it. When those places suffer, the businesses built around them suffer too.

As the businesses we serve grow, we want to help make sure the places people ride, paddle, climb, fish, camp, ski, surf and explore stay healthy for the generations that come next.

What we support

Work that keeps places open.

Examples of the kind of work 1% for the Outdoors is directed toward. Specific projects and partners will be named here as they are confirmed.

  • Trail maintenance

The unglamorous work that keeps singletrack, hiking routes and access paths rideable, walkable and safe season after season.

  • Conservation projects

Habitat restoration, watershed health, shoreline repair and land protection in the regions where outdoor businesses operate.

  • Public access

Trailheads, boat launches, parking, signage and easements — the quiet infrastructure that decides whether a place is open to everyone.

  • Outdoor education

Programs that teach skills, safety and stewardship, and that give more people a first honest day outside.

  • Stewardship events

Cleanup days, planting days, build days — hands-on work alongside the merchants and communities we serve.

  • Community organizations

Local clubs, volunteer crews and grassroots groups doing durable work with small budgets and long memories.

Growing together

One loop, not two agendas.

Every merchant who chooses Fizel becomes part of something larger than their own counter.

  1. 01

    Outdoor businesses succeed.

Better payment tools, fair pricing and support that understands seasons — so more revenue stays with the business.

  2. 02

    Fizel grows.

We only grow when the outdoor economy does. That alignment is deliberate, and it is the whole point.

  3. 03

    More support for the outdoors.

As we grow, so does what goes back out to the trails, waters, access points and communities behind those businesses.

Accountability

We’ll show our work.

A commitment nobody can check isn’t a commitment. As Fizel grows, we intend to publish an annual account of what 1% for the Outdoors actually did — in plain numbers, including the years the numbers are small.

  • Dollars contributed
  • Volunteer hours
  • Organizations supported
  • Community projects completed

We have no results to report yet. Annual reporting will begin as the initiative grows, and it will live on this page.

Business Can Be a Force for Good Outdoors.

Protecting the places that make outdoor businesses possible isn’t separate from our business. It’s part of why Fizel exists.
